Section 15.K. of the CBA provides paid time off for Flight Attendants following the death of a qualifying family member.
Flight Attendants are entitled to up to 4 consecutive days off without loss of pay, including scheduled days free from duty. Pay is based on the pairing(s) or Reserve duty day(s) missed.
The 4-day period may be extended by using up to 14 consecutive days of accrued vacation from the current or following year, if available.
Who Is Considered Family?
Bereavement leave may be used following the death of a:
- Spouse or domestic partner
- Child, including stepchildren and in-laws
- Parent, including stepparents and in-laws
- Grandparent, including step-grandparents and in-laws
- Grandchild, including step-grandchildren
- Sibling, including step-siblings and in-laws
- Legal dependent
- Legal guardian in lieu of a parent
- Other relative living in the Flight Attendant’s home
- Additional individuals included under Company policy
Travel for a Funeral or Memorial Service
United will provide positive-space online passes for travel to attend the funeral or memorial service and for return travel from downline locations. The Company will also assist with other travel arrangements as needed.
