Flight Attendants who receive a jury duty summons must notify the Company and submit the required documentation within 48 hours of receiving the summons.
What to Do
- Submit the Jury Duty Flight Attendant form through HelpHub and attach a clear photo or scanned copy of your summons.
- Before any affected pairing or Reserve day, call FAST at 1-800-FLT-LINE, Option 1 then Option 2 so your schedule can be updated.
- When your entire jury duty obligation is complete, call Crew Scheduling at 1-800-FLT-LINE, Option 4 then Option 2 for reassignment.
- Submit your record of service after jury duty is completed. It may be uploaded to your HelpHub case or provided to your supervisor.
- If jury duty is extended or you are selected for a trial, upload supporting documentation to your existing HelpHub case. If the court does not provide documentation, contact your supervisor.
Important: If you do not submit your summons before calling in for jury duty, your schedule may initially be coded as a Missed Trip until the documentation is provided and corrected.
Pay Protection
Lineholders receive flight pay credit and applicable accruals for flight time lost because of required jury duty.
Reserves receive pay credit at the daily rate and applicable accruals for Reserve days lost because of required jury duty.
Schedule changes made after receiving the jury duty notice are not protected beyond the flying or Reserve days contained in the original schedule.
Reassignment
Flight Attendants remain available for reassignment on originally scheduled workdays that do not conflict with the jury duty obligation.
After five or more consecutive days of jury duty, or a combination of flight duty and jury duty, the Flight Attendant is guaranteed two additional days off without loss of pay.
If jury duty is extended after you have been reassigned, notify your supervisor as soon as possible.
Commuting Flight Attendants
Commuters may request release from a reassignable day before jury duty when there is concern about being in position for the court obligation.
If a reassignment prevents a commuter from being in place for jury duty, contact your supervisor. The supervisor will determine whether the conflict is legitimate and, if appropriate, request that FAST remove the trip as unpaid.

Subpoena or Court Witness Summons
If you are required to appear in court on behalf of United Airlines, Lineholders and Reserves receive applicable pay protection and accruals for work lost due to the court appearance.
If the subpoena or court appearance involves a personal matter unrelated to United, Flight Attendants should first attempt to modify their schedule using available options. If unable to do so, the CBA provides for excused time without pay on days when the Flight Attendant is required to appear.
