Reserves must be provided at least one calendar day free from all duty and Company obligations at their home domicile during any seven consecutive days.
For certain International pairings longer than six days, the 1-in-7 requirement may instead be satisfied with a 24-hour period free from duty at an away-from-domicile point.
Can a Reserve Waive 1-in-7?
Yes. A Reserve may waive the contractual 1-in-7 limitation on an actual basis.
If you pick up flying or make trades that result in working seven consecutive days, the 1-in-7 protection is considered waived for that instance.
If Irregular Operations Extend You Into the 7th Day
If irregular operations cause your pairing to extend into the seventh consecutive day, a legality code may appear in your Master Schedule.
If you do not want to waive the 1-in-7, contact Crew Scheduling as soon as you block in and advise that you want the day off restored.
If you do not contact Scheduling, the contractual 1-in-7 protection may be considered waived.
Important: Any separate FAR requirement for a 24-hour period free from duty cannot be waived simply by waiving the contractual 1-in-7 provision.
Schedule Selection Conflicts
If your schedule selection results in not having one calendar day off during a seven-day period, another scheduled day off may be moved to resolve the conflict.
You may indicate which day you prefer to move, and Scheduling should consider that preference when possible.
A Reserve may also be released from a day of availability when necessary to comply with the 1-in-7 limitation.
International Pairings
When a Reserve is assigned an International pairing of more than six days, the 1-in-7 requirement may be satisfied by providing a 24-hour period free from duty at an away-from-domicile point, provided the pairing meets the contractual requirements.
