United may reschedule a Flight Attendant who was scheduled to deadhead and instead require them to work that same flight under specific staffing circumstances.
When Can United Change a Deadhead to Working?
A deadheading Flight Attendant may be rescheduled to work the flight in order to:
- Maintain the FAA-required number of Inflight Crew, including required augmentation, or
- Staff the flight up to United’s Established Staffing Guidelines (ESG) to prevent understaffing.
This means the Company may convert a deadhead to working status when necessary to meet either the FAA minimum staffing requirement or the applicable Established Staffing Guidelines.
Think the Flight Was Already Properly Staffed?
If you are changed from deadhead to working status and believe the flight was already staffed above the applicable requirement, document the circumstances and contact AFA Council 21 so the situation can be reviewed.
