If you become sick while downline, including while using FMLA or due to an Occupational Injury, the basic sick leave process still applies.
What to Know
- A downline sick call is handled similarly to a sick call originating from home or base.
- Except for FMLA, attendance points are assessed based on the occurrence, not how long you remain out.
- Contractually, hotel accommodations and per diem continue until you are able to return to base.
- Probationary Flight Attendants are evaluated under the Interim Evaluation (IE) system rather than the attendance point system.
What to Do
- Give as much notice as possible.
- Contact FAST to place yourself on sick leave while downline.
- If the absence involves an Occupational Injury, follow the applicable Occupational Injury reporting procedures after calling FAST.
- Remain in contact with the Inflight Duty Manager (IFDM) at 847-700-4174 for hotel accommodations, incidentals, and travel back to base.
- You are not required to provide medical details to management.
- When you are well enough to travel, notify the IFDM so positive-space travel back to base can be arranged.
- Do not rush to return. Travel when you are well enough to do so.
- After returning to base, email a photo of your boarding pass to your supervisor so a Manager Notification Form can be completed and your per diem properly calculated.
- Sick leave continues to roll until you contact FAST and call off sick leave.
