MEC Grievance 1-26: Challenging Improper Reserve Availability Requirements
AFA disputes the company’s position that Reserves must remain physically in base when they have not received an assignment.
MEC Grievance 1-26 was filed after the company began disciplining Reserves considered “out-of-position,” including cases where no pairing or Standby assignment had been issued.
AFA’s position is that the Contract requires Reserves to be available for contact and able to report within the required timeframe. It does not require them to remain physically in base without an assignment.
Until the grievance is resolved, Reserves should:
- Monitor your position on the Reserve Availability List
- Review open trips and Standby positions in CCS
- Plan carefully for weather and commuting disruptions
- Request Union Representation during any company meeting or investigation
